Description

The prescription medicine TOZEN-D drops is a combination of two active ingredients, Tobramycin (an antibiotic) and Dexamethasone (a corticosteroid), used to treat inflammatory eye conditions that also have a bacterial infection or a risk of bacterial infection.
Description and Uses

Active Ingredients: Tobramycin (0.3%) and Dexamethasone (0.1%).

Mechanism of Action: Tobramycin works by stopping the growth and multiplication of susceptible bacteria, while Dexamethasone is a steroid that reduces inflammation, redness, itching, and swelling.

Primary Uses:

    • Managing steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the eye.
    • Treating superficial bacterial infections of the eye, such as conjunctivitis.
    • Reducing inflammation and preventing infection after certain eye surgeries, such as cataract surgery.
Important Precautions and Administration
  • External Use Only: This medication is strictly for external application in the eye (or sometimes the ear canal if prescribed by a doctor).
  • Contact Lenses: Do not wear contact lenses if you have an active eye infection. If you use the drops, remove contact lenses before instilling the medicine and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in.

Administration:

    • Wash your hands thoroughly before use.
    • Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface, including your eye, to prevent contamination.
    • If using other eye drops, wait at least 5-10 minutes between applications.
    • Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor, even if symptoms improve earlier, to ensure the infection is fully cured and prevent relapse.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include temporary burning/stinging sensation, eye irritation, itching, or redness. If these side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor.
