Usage And Safety
Dosage
Chronic constipation: Adults & Children: Over 12 yr, 1-3 sachets daily in divided doses usually for upto 2 wk; contents of each sachet dissolved in half a glass ( approx 125 ml ) of water; maintenance, 1-2 sachets daily. Faecal impaction: Adults & Children: Over 12 yr, 8 sachets daily dissolved in 1 litre of water and drunk within 6 hr, usually for max 3 days. After constitution the solution should be kept in a refrigerator and discarded if unused after 6 hr.
Side Effects
Abdominal distension and pain, nausea, flatulence, GI upset, dyspepsia, borborygmi, anal discomfort, headache, electrolyte disturbances, peripheral oedoma, allergic reactions.
Drug Interactions
Possible transient reduction in absorption of the drugs.
Indication
It is a laxative for the treatment of constipation in adults, adolescents and elderly. It is not recommended for children below 12 years of age. Movcol helps you to have a comfortable bowel movement even if you have been constipated for a long time. Movcol also works in very bad constipation called faecal impaction.
When not to Use
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the other excipients.
Warnings
Warning 1
When taking Movcol you should continue to take plenty of fluids. The fluid content of Movicol should not replace your regular liquid intake.
Warning 2
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you need 3 or more sachets daily for a prolonged period, especially if you have been advised to follow a low salt (sodium) diet.
Warning 3
If you take more Movcol than you should than you may develop excessive diarrhoea, which can lead to dehydration. If this occurs, stop taking Movicol and drink plenty of fluids. If you are worried contact your doctor or pharmacist.
