Linezolid
Bacterial Infection
Linezolid inhibits initiation of protein synthesis at the level of ribosomes by binding with 50S ribosomal subunit.
Linezolid
Headache, insomnia, convulsions, dizziness, vertigo, dermatologic rash, pharyngitis, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, generalized and localized abdominal pain, GI bleeding, loose stool, constipation, altered taste tongue discoloration ,oral moniliasis , vaginal moniliasis, anemia, thrombocytopenia, eosinophilia, leucopenia, hypokalemia, generalized edema & lactic acidosis.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors , Adrenergic Agents such as phenylpropanolamine and pseudoephedrine .
It is indicated for bacterial Infection .
It is contraindicated for use in patients who have known hypersensitivity to linezolid or any of the other product components.
There is a risk that Linezolid may sometimes interact with certain other medicines to cause side effects such as changes in blood pressure, temperature or heart rate.
Treatment with antibacterial agents alters the normal flora of the colon and may permit overgrowth of clostridia. Studies indicated that a toxin produce by clostridium difficile is a primary cause of ‘’antibiotic-associated colitis’’.
Thrombocytopenia has been reported in patients receiving linezolid. Platelet count should be monitored in patients who are at increase risk for bleeding.
No overall difference in safety or effectiveness of linezolid were observed between elderly patients and younger patients.
