Carbocisteine is a mucolytic agent for the adjunctive therapy of respiratory tract disorders characterised by excessive, viscous mucus, including chronic obstructive airways disease.
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug.
Caution is advised in the administration of carbocisteine in individuals susceptible to gastroduodenal ulcers, as mucolytics have the capacity to destroy the gastric mucosal barrier.
You (or your child) must not use medicines which suppress cough (cough suppressants) or which dry out bronchial secretions when taking this children syrup. This is because this Children syrup thins secretions, making them easier to cough up. Coughing is a useful mechanism for expectoration.
Treatment should be stopped if bleeding in the stomach or intestine occurs .
