Diloxanide furoate , Metronidazole
Side Effects
GI upset , dysgeusia , leucopenia , urticaria , angioedema , CNS disturbances , dark urine . Neuropathy and epileptiform seizures on long term therapy . Severe bullous skin reactions.
Drug Interactions
Anticoagulants , phenobarbital , lithium , alcohol , phenytoin.
Indication
Acute amoebiasis, Chronic amoebiasis, Hepatic amoebiasis and other systemic diseases due to E. histolytica, Giardiasis.
When not to Use
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. In addition, it should not be used if you have the following conditions: Alcohol intoxication , Habit of drinking too much alcohol , Liver disease , Lower seizure threshold , Seizures , Tingling or pain of hands or feet.
Warnings
Warning 1
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: liver disease, kidney disease, certain blood disorders (low blood cell counts).
Warning 2
During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
Warning 3
Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely.
